From the properties of surds you notice that surds cannot be added or subtracted. The numerical value of those 2 is not the same. If there's an operation sign like addition or subtraction, each surd acts as a separate term. sqrt(65) + sqrt (4) gives 2+sqrt(65) where as sqrt (65+4) allows us to work what's inside the root then take the square root of the result which is sqrt (69)
