The slopes of two perpendicular lines has a product equal to -1, that is:

$$m_1 \cdot m_2 = -1$$

So if the first line has a slope of $\dfrac{-7}{8}$ then :

$$m_1 \cdot \dfrac{-7}{8} = -1$$

$$m_1 = -1 \cdot \dfrac{-8}{7}$$

Therefore $m_1 = \dfrac{8}{7}$
