INTERESTINGLY: NORTH AND EAST MAKE UP AN 90 DEGREES ANGLE OR A RIGHT ANGLE.

Using the theorem of Pythagoras:

Change in position = $\sqrt{400^2+ 300^2}$

$= 500$m in the North Easterly direction
