Best answer
Solve for $m$ in $2m^2-5m-3=0$

$2m^2-5m-3=0$

$2m^2-6m+1m-3=0$

$2m(m-3)+1(m-3)=0$

$(2m+1)(m-3)=0$

so $2m+1=0$ or $m-3=0$

hence $m=-\dfrac{1}{2}$ or $m=3$
