The terms of this sequence can be expressed as
\(\begin{aligned} 1 \text { st term } &=1^{2}+1 \\ 2 \text { nd term } &=2^{2}+1 \\ 3 \text { rd term } &=3^{2}+1 \\ 4 \text { th term } &=4^{2}+1 \\ 5 \text { th term } &=5^{2}+1 \end{aligned}\)
Extending the pattern gives
20 th term \(=20^{2}+1=401\).
