When the degree of freedom in the variables is greater than that of the degree of constraint imposed by a system of equations, the system of equations is said to be underdetermined. This means that there are more variables than equations and therefore the system does not have a unique solution. In this case, the system of equations will have infinitely many solutions or no solution at all.
