Diagonal side is hypotenuse side in the respective triangle, so other 2 sides are equal,

using Pythagoras:

                  40^2 = a^2 + a^2  

                1 600 = 2a^2

                       800 = a^2

                       a = 28.28 m

Therefore area = s x s = 28.28 x 28.28 = 800 m^2
