Twenty water tanks are decreasing in size in such a way that the volume of each tank is $\frac{1}{2}$ the volume of the previous tank.

 The first tank is empty, but the other 19 tanks are full of water.Would it be possible for the first water tank to hold all the water from the other 19 tanks? Motivate your answer.

vol of tanks= 1,1/2,1/4,...

  r= 1/2

sum of terms 1/2,1/4,....

a=1/2

sum= 0.5/(1-0.5) = 1

hence that volume of 1 unit is what the first tank's volume is, therefore possible to hold water from all the 19 tanks.
