An intent is the purpose behind a statement. It’s a group of examples or words a user might say to communicate a specific goal or an idea.
Let’s look at the Food Coach chatbot that asks if the user has eaten during its initial greeting. Anticipating a response, there are intents which enable the chatbot to recognize and respond to #yes or #no responses. (The pound sign or hash tag is used to indicate an intent in the Watson Assistant (formerly Conversation) tool.)
