Beer's law states that the amount of energy absorbed or transmitted by a solution is proportional to the solution's molar absorptivity and concentration. The mathematical expression is :

A = e x l x c

where A = absorbance, e = extinction coefficient, l = cell path length, c = concentration of solution.
