Jenny walks 30 meters north, 40 meters south, and 20 meters north.  Determine the displacement travelled by Jenny.

Displacement is a vector quantity hence direction is taken into account. 

Change in displacement = (-40)+ (50)= 10 m  TAKING NORTH AS POSITIVE

therefore the displacement or change in position that Jenny underwent is 20 m to the south.

Is it not 30 - 40 + 20 = 10m ?
